Faeries of Dreamdark Blackbringer by Laini Taylor

Written By: Laini Taylor

Synopsis:
It is the faeries' doom to forget what ought never be forgotten. Their wars have faded to legend. Their foes are naught but nursery tales. After thousands of years of peace the name Blackbringer inspires no fear. But it should. The Blackbringer is no nursery tale. He's the dark come to life. And he's back. (back cover)

Magpie Windwitch, granddaughter of the West Wind, is not like other faeries. While most of her kind live in tranquil seclusion deep in their forests, escaped devils are creeping back into the world after millenia of imprisonment, and Magpie is all that stands in their way. With her faithful clan of crows, she travels the world hunting the bloodthirsty snags down, just as her hero, the legendary Bellatrix, did twenty-five thousand years ago.
When the ancient evil of the Blackbringer is loosed from its prison, Magpie may be in over her head. This hunt will take her back to the great forest of Dreamdark, a place of legends and Djinn, cunning imps and tattooed warriors, where she must unravel the mystery of the greatest enemy her folk have ever known. Will the determination of one small faerie be enough to defeat the impenetrable darkness that threatens to unmake the world? (jacket sleeve)

The Manic Bookworm's Review ~>
I originally got this book for my eleven year old daughter, and she read the book and was captivated by it. She spent hours talking about the characters and honestly I think if she could become Magpie, she would.
As any good mother would I just had to read the book for myself.
Laini Taylor has created a magical world in this book, which is as entertaining as Narnia was to me as a child. The depth with which she endows her characters is done so effortlessly and you cannot help but become ensnared in the lives of all the faeries and creatures. Within the story is a history so well woven into the story you don't feel like you are reading a boring textbook, which is always a plus for young readers.
If your child loves faeries, princesses, or magic this is a book I highly recommend you let them read. It would make a reluctant reader a voracious mini bookworm.
I know we will be eagerly anticipating the second book in the series, Silksinger, which is in the works. Laini Taylor has also earned her way on to the Bookworm's Fav Author List with just one book!

Thank you for reading! AND for reviewing! I am so glad you and your daughter enjoyed Blackbringer. The things you said here warm my heart -- there's nothing better that I can think of than 11-year-old readers talking about my book for hours. YAY! Hope your new year is off to a wonderful start!

Thank you for the mention of my review blog! You know...we may end up reading and reviewing "Cell" at about the same time - wouldn't that be a hoot?
